Matarangi is one of those resorts that most holiday makers only dream about, imagine a 4.5km long, north facing beach with white silicon sand that squeaks under foot as it crunches up between your toes. You could almost be mistaken for thinking you are on a tropical island, with the Pacific Ocean and the Whangapoua Harbour surrounding the north, west and south sides of Matarangi.
Matarangi is a place where you can bask in the sun while watching the children swimming in one of the safest beaches in New Zealand. Enjoy a relaxing game of golf on the 18 hole championship links course. Or have access to some of the best boating, fishing & diving spots on the Coromandel from the boat ramp in the Whangapoua Harbour. If its tennis you like there are 9 free to the public tennis courts available.
Matarangi is handy to many other idyllic beaches, secluded bays or small islands.
If you prefer to shop, Whitianga to the East or Coromandel Township to the West is only 20 minutes drive. Driving time to Auckland, Hamilton or Tauranga is only 2.5hrs or if you prefer to fly it is only 20 minutes.
Matarangi has only a small 10% permanent population, fluctuating around 160 people. During the summer breaks and long weekends Matarangi holiday home owners take advantage of their retreats to unwind and destress along with a small number of tourists who have discovered this paradise.
